County declares EMS Week

LOCK HAVEN, PA – There was a large delegation of emergency service personnel on hand Thursday as the Clinton County Commissioners approved a proclamation designating May 21-27 as National Emergency Services Week in the county,

The commissioners heard from Gerard Banfill, head of Lock Haven EMS, who said there are several EMT courses planned to enlist new EMS personnel in the county. These include a program at Commonwealth University-Lock Haven and at Lock Haven EMS. Banfill had appeared before the commissioners at a recent meeting to detail the problems facing emergency services providers locally and across the country, including the need for additional personnel.

Also on Thursday the commissioners approved an allocation of $4,625 in American Rescue Plan funding toward tuition costs for an EMS training program at the Keystone Central School District.

In a personnel matter, the commissioners hired Jasmine Sanders as the county’s new Human Resources Administrator/Deputy Chief Clerk, effective May 22, at a pay of $47,631, the starting salary established for that position. According to information provided by the commissioners’ office, the new hire is a current resident of Clinton County. She is a Lycoming College and Misericordia graduate with her master’s in organizational management and human resources. She has a professional background primarily in Human Resources and recently worked for GAF as a Human Resources Generalist.

Sanders will be replacing Desiree Myers who was recently hired to replace Jann Meyers as Chief Clerk, the latter’s resignation to take effect in early June. The commissioners agreed to a contract with outgoing chief clerk Meyers, for consultation as an independent contractor at $40 an hour on an as-needed basis, through the end of the calendar year. Board chairman Miles Kessinger said Meyers will be available to answer any questions through that time and will be used “as sparingly as possible.”
