Wildcat JV baseball finishes 17-0 season

WILLIAMSPORT, PA – The Central Mountain varsity baseball team finished its regular season with a 19-1 mark. But it turns out that was not the best record in the area. The Central Mountain jayvee squad finished its season Wednesday with a 21-3 win over Williamsport. The jayvees finished with a 17-0 regular season.

The team had 18 players on its roster and coach Jon Herman was able to rotate all 18 into virtually all contests throughout the perfect season. Most of those games were one-sided, the exception a 2-1 win over Bellefonte in the program’s Mill Hall Magic Classic on May 6 and an early season, come from behind win over Milton.

Coach Herman had nothing but good things to say about the team. He noted they had played together for years, through the Keystone Little League program and travel ball and “you could see the chemistry.” He said the team was “a great group, easy to work with and never complained. When they faced adversity, you could count on them every time.”

The final win at Williamsport was decided early. In the first inning, the jayvees got their offense started when Nate Wian singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. They put up eight runs in the second inning.  The rally was led by singles by Darius Shade and Griffin Kerstetter, a walk by Jase Seltzer, and a sacrifice fly by Isaiah Moldonado.

Gage Laughner earned the win as he allowed one hit and two runs over two and a third innings, striking out three.  Austin Frank and Malaky Moyd entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

The younger Wildcats saw Dominic Slota launch a four bagger in the third inning. Shade went 2-for-2 at the plate and Hunter Donley had two stolen bases, as they ran wild on the base paths with eight stolen bases.

Coach Herman said most of the team will be playing some form of summer/travel ball. Of the 18 players, 17 were freshmen or sophomores, one junior on the roster.

Interestingly, the coach played for Wildcat varsity head coach Mike Kramer at Central Mountain in 2005 and now, after graduating from Lock Haven University, teaches math at Central Mountain High School, his classroom right next to coach Kramer, who also teaches math.
