County unemployment rate improves

HARRISBURG, PA – The Clinton County unemployment picture improved during the month of March, according to information released Tuesday by the State Department of Labor and Industry.

The March jobless rate in the county was 4.4%, down from the 5.4% unemployment reading in February. The state estimated there were 200 more county residents working in March, as opposed to a month earlier. One year ago in March 2022, the unemployment rate was 5.0%

The March 2023 rate ranked Clinton County at no. 49 out of the state’s 67 counties. Chester County had the lowest rate at 2.7%, while Monroe County had the highest at 5.6%.

For the week ending April 15, 2023, the state reported that 37 Clinton County residents applied for initial unemployment benefits, up from 22 listed one year ago. The continued claim number was 268, an improvement from the 295 registered one year ago.
