Sugar Valley edged by Sullivan County baseball
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Sugar Valley Phoenix staged a wild one with visiting Sullivan County on Monday at Taggart Park in Lock Haven. The three-hour contest ended with Sullivan County going home with a hard-earned 18-14 win.
Both times came to the Phoenix home field looking for their first win, the Griffins 0-3 and SV 0-4. Sullivan County ultimately came out on top, but Sugar Valley made them earn it. After Sullivan County put up nine runs in the top of the sixth to take a 17-5 lead, it looked like the game was over. But the Phoenix put up nine runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to make it a 17-14 contest with an inning to go. The Griffins added an insurance run in the top of the seventh and shut down the Phoenix in their last at-bat to head back to Sullivan County with the win.
Five different Phoenix players contributed to a 12-hit attack. Junior Lance Winchester and sophomore Lincoln Breon led the way with three hits each, each with a double. Two hits each came from Jarren McCloskey, Jordan Litz and Gage Lucas; Litz and Lucas with doubles.
