Full power returns overnight at UPMC Williamsport
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Full power was restored at UPMC Williamsport at 1:30 a.m. on Friday after a power outage in the vicinity of the sprawling health care complex had left the hospital without power for better than an hour, according to news media reports.
The power outage occurred at 7:20 p.m. Thursday and according to the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, emergency generators were not able to function until 8:45 p.m. The Williamsport paper said two hospital patients, a baby and an adult, were flown to other facilities while the outage was being addressed.
After 9 p.m. Thursday the hospital posted word that UPMC was operating on emergency power “due to a community power outage.”
Friday morning the hospital issued this follow-up:
UPDATE: Full power was restored to UPMC Williamsport on Friday, Feb. 24 at 1:30 a.m. The hospital is safe and fully operational. Outpatient appointments continue as scheduled today.
The initial report Thursday night said Williamsport firemen had been summoned to the hospital at 7:20 p.m. after a report of smoke in the complex, but there was no report of a fire.
