LH Men’s Basketball Falls in Home Clash with Shippensburg
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (13-6, 9-5 PSAC) fell to Shippensburg University (13-7, 11-3 PSAC), 72-61, on Saturday afternoon in a battle for the top spot in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division.
After trading buckets early, the Bald Eagles led 5-4, but a swift charge from Shippensburg changed the dynamic of the game. The Raiders grabbed the lead back immediately and never trailed again. Shippensburg led by as many as 14 in the opening half and took a 34-25.
Out of the break, LHU cut into the lead at 42-37, but Shippensburg responded and ballooned their advantage to 19 points on an extended 19-5 run to take a 61-42 lead with five minutes to play.
The 19-point lead was the Raiders largest of the night, and the momentum-changing run helped seal the road win, 72-61.
Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael’s)) led a balanced Haven attack with 13 points as five Bald Eagles notched double figures.
The trio of Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti), Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) and Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) each notched 11 points, and James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) chipped in 10 of his own.
Price also hauled in 10 rebounds for his sixth double-double of the year as he led all Bald Eagles on the glass. The Haven held a slight 35-34 advantage in rebounding as Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) also grabbed nine, but an 8-3 difference in made three pointers for Shippensburg helped earn the win.
