Gedon announces county auditor candidacy

LOCK HAVEN – Cathy Gedon has announced her candidacy for the office of Clinton County Auditor. She will be seeking the Republican nomination in the May 2023 primary election for a four-year term.

Cathy has been interested in crunching numbers and finance through most of her school years. She was hired by the former Commonwealth Bank, now First Commonwealth Bank, on Bellefonte Avenue in Lock Haven shortly after graduation from high school. She worked there until she had her second child and then returned when her youngest child was in elementary school.

Cathy, and her husband George, have owned and operated the Gedon Funeral home in Lock Haven since they were married in 1986. She has been instrumental in taking the business record keeping and accounting from old school bookkeeping to modernizing the company with online software.

In conjunction with the funeral home business, she has always been employed in banking. After leaving Commonwealth Bank as a part-time teller, she took a full-time position with Northwest Savings Bank in Lock Haven. She pursued her passion for banking and in 2014, when Woodlands Bank opened a location in Lock Haven, she was hired to run the teller line and vault. It was at Woodlands Bank, where she became interested in expanding her knowledge of mortgages. When she was given the opportunity in 2018 with More Than a Mortgage LLC, which was a new start up mortgage company in Lock Haven, she jumped at the opportunity and was hired to be a mortgage loan processor/compliance officer. At the mortgage company, Cathy meets with mortgage customers, working directly with home buyers from the time the loan comes out of underwriting until the day the loan closes. She oversees the audit of every loan file as required by the Department of Banking and prepares data and reports for the company’s unannounced audits, which occur at any time during the year. Cathy is also a certified notary

Gedon said her bookkeeping and financial experience will enable her to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the office of Clinton County Auditor which includes conducting an audit of all county accounts and offices; reconciling all bank statements; reviewing accounts receivable and payable; auditing payroll and W2s; financial records of all of the tax collectors for municipalities, delinquent taxes, hotel taxes and revolving loan records; and compiling an annual report for all accounts.

“I am running for County Auditor so I can put my managerial, organizational, customer service, bookkeeping and financial skills to work to benefit Clinton County and assist all of the people served by the Auditors’ office. If elected, I plan to continue my proven track record of providing clients with the highest level of service; will communicate effectively with my fellow auditors, county departments, and the public; and will work every day to the best of my ability to insure that good financial practices and checks and balances are in place,” Gedon said.

A lifelong resident of Clinton County, Gedon attended McGhee Elementary School and is a 1981 graduate of Lock Haven High School.

Cathy’s parents William E. Baney, Jr. and Lucille Dicello Baney, were both born and raised in Clinton County. She has two brothers, William E. Baney, III of Lock Haven and Joseph A. Baney of McElhattan.

She and her husband George reside in Lock Haven. They have been married for thirty-seven years and are the parents of three adult children, Michael (Katie) Gedon, Kristen (Evan) Fisher, and Kelly Gedon and are blessed with four grandchildren. She is a member of St. Agnes (Holy Spirit Parish) in Lock Haven.

Cathy currently serves on the Lock Haven Parks and Recreation Board. She served on the board of directors of the Lock Haven Salvation Army and Clinton County United Way and volunteers annually with the Deb Shirey Memorial Golf Tournament which benefits the American Cancer Society.

She is a volunteer instructor with the personal finance class at Central Mountain High School, focusing on every aspect of banking with emphasis on the importance of establishing and maintaining a good credit rating which impacts an individual’s ability to borrow money for car loans to personal loans and mortgages.

Her hobbies include repurposing furniture, baking, traveling, and learning new things. She especially loves spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoys sharing outdoor activities with her family to include snowmobiling and boating. Gedon said what is most important to her is family and keeping the traditions of past generations alive.
