LH women’s basketball drops tight road clash at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Lock Haven women’s basketball team (7-10, 5-7 PSAC) dropped a road contest with Slippery Rock University (10-8, 5-7 PSAC), 61-57, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) thriller on Monday night.

Over the opening ten minutes, defenses reigned supreme as neither offense was able to break through. Slippery Rock edged just ahead of the Bald Eagles at 9-8 after the opening quarter.

The action got going in the second quarter as both teams began to heat up, with The Rock still clinging to a slight 27-24 lead going into the break.

Out of halftime, Lock Haven seized control and outscored The Rock 20-14 and grabbed a three-point lead at 44-41 when Jenadia Jordan (Lititz, Pa./Linden Hall) knocked down a three-pointer with one second to play in the quarter.

Slippery Rock, however, responded in style in the fourth quarter and immediately went on an extended 13-2 run which saw them take a 56-46 lead with under five minutes to play. The Bald Eagles crawled all the way back with a run of their own and came to within two points on the game’s final possession, but The Rock defense stood tall one final time, and hung on for the 61-57 home victory.

Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) led all Bald Eagles in scoring as she poured in 17 points on an efficient 7-11 from the field. Robinson notched a double-double with 11 rebounds and filled up the stat sheet with three blocks, three steals and four assists.

Carly Fitzmorris (Hamburg, N.J./Pope John XXIII) and Adaliz Corbin (Altoona, Pa./Altoona) each chipped in eight points as the pair each drained two shots from beyond the arc.

The Bald Eagles held a slight 44-42 lead in rebounding but were unable to overcome a 20-13 scoring run in the fourth quarter from Slippery Rock.

Lock Haven stays on the road with a trip to East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Jan. 25. That showdown with the Warriors is set for a 5:30 p.m. start.
