Wildcat boys notch road win at Shik, 74-66
SUNBURY, PA – The Central Mountain boys’ basketball team started the second cycle in the Heartland Conference the way it finished the first cycle, another road win; this one on Friday night over Shikellamy by a 74-66 score.
The victory pushed the Wildcats to 13-1 on the year and maintained the team’s first place tie with Shamokin and Selinsgrove. Shik fell to 5-10 with the loss.
The game was close in the first half, the Wildcats up by one at 36-35. But then senior Hayden Pardoe took over, scoring 10 of his team’s 18 points in the third quarter which ended with CM in the lead at 54-42; Pardoe drained two 3s in the period and added two more close-range field goals, part of a 26-point night. Central Mountain would extend the lead to 68-50 midway through the final period as reserves took over and the Braves closed the gap at the end.
‘Cat coach Tyler Bardo said his team was able to extend its lead with some minor adjustments in the second half and said, “We were able to get some younger guys a little extended playing time toward the end and let them handle some different atmosphere.”
Ten different CM players scored. In addition to Pardoe’s 26 points, Jack Hanna had 15 and Brady Myers came off the bench with 9. Other scorers were Essex Taylor 8, Xavier Persun 5, Levi Schlesinger 4, 2 each from Hunter Hoy, Dom Longworth, Caleb Mahoney and 1 from Darius Shade.
Central Mountain will continue its road swing on Tuesday at Milton (6-6), then return home on Friday,. Jan. 27 with conference co-leader Shamokin (11-3).
