LH men’s basketball edged by West Chester in PSAC East thriller
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Trailing late at home, the Lock Haven University men’s basketball team (11-4, 7-3 PSAC) mounted a furious comeback and rallied to tie the game in the final minutes, but in the end, visiting West Chester (11-5, 6-4 PSAC) used some clutch free-throw shooting to earn a hard-fought 73-68 victory in a thrilling Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash.
Today’s game marked Lock Haven’s 2022-23 Community Night and admission was free for all. The event was held in honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and in celebration of Dr. King’s impact. Today members of the Lock Haven men’s and women’s basketball teams also participated in a Day of Service in honor of Dr. King, and to continue to promote his legacy The LHU student-athletes visited local elementary schools to read books to, and to inspire various school-aged children in the community.
Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School (Saint Michael’s)) led Lock Haven with 18 points and six rebounds. He was one of three Bald Eagles who scored in double-figures tonight.
James Price (Joppa, Md./Archbishop Curley) netted 15 points and Jayy Davis (Cheltenham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham (Washington Adventist)) finished with 13 points to help pace Lock Haven offensively. Price and Davis finished the game with five and four rebounds, respectively.
Eli Washington (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) turned in another strong effort for The Haven. He tallied eight points and dished out five assists.
West Chester was led by Robert Smith who finished with 19 points. He was one of three players in double-figures for the visitors and he nailed a big 3-pointer in the final minutes to help secure the win for the Golden Rams.
Lock Haven trailed late, but with 5:17 left in the game, Price hit a clutch 3-pointer to tie the contest at 60-60. After the Bald Eagles stormed back to tie the game, they took the lead as the final five minutes proved to be an epic back-and-forth battle. Despite LHU’s comeback, West Chester bounced back and the Golden Rams used clutch free-throwing shooting to secure the win in the game’s final moments.

The Bald Eagles will look to get back in the win column and continue their strong play at home as they host Millersville in PSAC East action on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 3 p.m. in Thomas Fieldhouse. Lock Haven is 5-1 at home on the season.
