LH women’s basketball falls to West Chester in PSAC East Clash

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) scored a game-high 18 points and the Bald Eagles did all they could to rally late in the fourth quarter, but in the end, visiting West Chester (9-7, 6-4 PSAC) held off the Lock Haven University women’s basketball team’s (7-8, 5-5 PSAC) final push, and the Golden Rams escaped Thomas Fieldhouse with a 66-57 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action.

Wednesday’s game marked Lock Haven’s 2022-23 Community Night and admission was free for all. The event was held in honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day and in celebration of Dr. King’s impact. Earlier Wednesday members of the Lock Haven men’s and women’s basketball teams also participated in a Day of Service in honor of Dr. King, and to continue to promote his legacy The LHU student-athletes visited local elementary schools to read books to, and to inspire various school-aged children in the community.

For Lock Haven, Lawyer knocked down four 3-pointers and was one of two Bald Eagles in double-figures scoring. Taylor Leidy (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley) was 7-of-12 from the floor, and she finished with 15 points.

Leidy added six assists as she sparked the offense.

Once again, it was Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) who powered a strong defensive effort for The Haven. Robinson grabbed eight rebounds, recorded four blocks, and chipped in with nine points.

Olivia Smith (Alexandria, Pa./Juniata Valley (Frostburg State)) added eight points and Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) grabbed eight rebounds.

The win was the second straight for West Chester as the visitors benefitted from four players in double-figures scoring including Emily McAteer who had 17 points.

Lock Haven looks to bounce back and the team will remain at home as the Bald Eagles turn their attention to a PSAC East clash with Millersville scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. Saturday will mark Lock Haven’s 2022-23 Alumnae Day.
