Wildcat boys put up season-high 87 in win over Jersey Shore

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA- No one was sure how Central Mountain would respond after the boys’ team lost its first game of the season at Shamokin earlier in the week. But after a sluggish couple minutes, the Wildcats got in rhythm Saturday night, racing to an 87-63 win over Jersey Shore.

The Wildcats had a significant height advantage over the Bulldogs and got most of their points at close range, led by 6-6 senior Hayden Pardoe’s 28 points, all scored before he went to the bench early in the fourth period, the game’s outcome decided by that point. Inside man Levi Schlesinger helped out on the board and  scored 10 points, all from close range. Jack Hanna finished with 16, most all of those on drives to the basket. Xavier Persun came off the bench with 10 points, including two 3-pointers.

Coach Tyler Bardo was able to clear his bench. Other points came from Hunter Hoy with 8, 4 each from Essex Taylor, Dom Longworth and Caleb Mahoney and 2 from Brady Myers.

Jersey Shore scrapped all night and was led by reserve Gage Mosier’s 20 points.

The win put Central Mountain at 11-1 on the year, ‘ Shore falling to 2-9. The CM victory sets up a key game at Selinsgrove on Wednesday of next week, the Seals at 9-5 after a one-point win, 42-41, Saturday at home over Shamokin, the loss the first in the Heartland Conference for the Indians.

Saturday night was also induction night for the most recent members of the Central Mountain High School Athletic Hall of Fame. The recipients recognized at halftime were Courtney Michelle Walsh and Abe Stauffer.

Courtney Michelle Walsh:

Courtney was an outstanding athlete and a great student graduating 5th in her class. She earned 11 Varsity letters throughout high school while playing basketball, soccer, and track. After high school, she attended Washington and Jefferson College, where she played basketball for four years. Courtney was also very active in her community, officiating elementary basketball games, running basketball and soccer camps, and volunteering at the Red Cross.

Abe Stauffer

Abe was a teacher at Lock Haven High School, where he also coached the boys’ varsity soccer team for 17 years, gaining 161 wins. He then moved to Central Mountain High School, where he continued his teaching and coaching career, winning 168 games over 13 years. He led the boy’s Lock Haven varsity and the Central Mountains girls’ varsity soccer teams to many league championships and was the first coach from Central Mountain to lead his team to win a district championship in 2000. Abe was a very successful coach leading him to be elected into the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Hall of Fame in 2018.
