Shorthanded Lady Bucks upset at Sullivan County, 34-24
By Bees O’Brien
LAPORTE, PA- Bucktail knew that missing injured star Mak Wagner could play a factor in their road contest with struggling Sullivan County. They didn’t expect the absence of Wagner to have as big of an impact as it did against the Lady Griffins.
Sullivan County entered the game at 1-7, in the midst of a seven game losing streak that dated back to early December. Sullivan was in upset mode. Mainly just two Lady Griffins were in upset mode. Stella Harney and Chloe Immel would combine for 32 for Sullivan’s 34 points on the night and stun a Bucktail team that was riddled with turnovers and poor shooting 34-24.
Sullivan County built a surprising 12-6 first quarter lead and they continued to have success. Immel and Harney did all of the work for the Lady Griffins early and often.
Bucktail fell in a 22-10 halftime hole. This was a half that only saw the Lady Bucks convert two field goals.
Bucktail outscored Sullivan 14-12 in the second half, but showed signs of missing their leading scorer in Wagner.
Lily Francis had another productive game for Bucktail. Francis scored a team high 9 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Kayla Probert finished with 7 points. Alexis Lowery and Matti Mason each added 4 points in the loss.
Harney and Immel led all scorers with 16 each.
Bucktail dropped below .500 for the first time this season following the stunning loss. Sullivan County is now 2-7 on the season.
The Lady Bucks will now be back in action on Wednesday night as they will square off against Benton. Bucktail downed the Lady Tigers 46-29 at Benton back in December. This game will be a live stream broadcast on The Record Online. Tip-off time is set for 7:30 for the varsity contest.
