Lawyer leads LH women’s basketball to comeback win over Bloom

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. –Lawyer leads LH women’s basketball to comeback win over Bloom home game of the new year Saturday versus Bloomsburg (2-9, 0-7 PSAC) in a tightly contested Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle, which saw the two duke it out, but the Bald Eagles clawed out the victory as Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) delivered a game winner with seven seconds remaining to help complete the double-digit comeback, winning 68-66.

Throughout 12 lead changes, LHU held strong in the final minutes to erase and create the 14-point comeback to win.

In the first quarter, the two teams remained close with Bloomsburg taking a 16-13 lead into the next ten minutes. In the second quarter, the Huskies dominated the floor, limiting the Bald Eagles to just 23.5% from the field and remained in the lead at halftime at 34-24.

Lock Haven’s offense caught flame and dropped 26 points in the third quarter, two more than they scored in the first half, while shooting perfect from the arc (3 for 3) and the free throw line (11 for 11). Six players for LHU saw their shot fall in the net, including Lawyer scoring eight and Jenadia Jordan (Lititz, Pa./Linden Hall) dropping five, but Bloomsburg still held a 51-50-point advantage going into the fourth.

During the final quarter, the two teams battled it out, creating seven lead changes in the final five minutes. The Huskies gained the lead five a five-point margin going into the final three minutes. With two crucial layups by Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center), LHU was able to downsize it to a one-point lead.

After a layup by the Huskies, Lawyer raised the crowd to their feet with a three-point dagger to tie up the game at 66. As the crowd remained standing, the sophomore sent the Huskies back home, hitting the game winner with just seven seconds remaining to win the conference victory 68-66.

Lawyer shined for the offense, delivering her second most points of her career at 24, which also set her season high. She also was on fire from the arc, shooting six into the back of the net. The other double-digit scorer for LHU was Adaliz Corbin (Altoona, Pa./Altoona), who scored ten and was perfect from the arc (2 for 2) and the charity stripe (4 for 4).

The Bald Eagles will travel to a local neighborhood to face Mansfield on Wednesday, January 11th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
