Mounties hold Bucktail’s offense in check in 62-15 Mid Penn victory

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL, PA- Following Bucktail’s first quarter against visiting South Williamsport on Saturday afternoon in Farwell, it looked like it was going to be one of those days. The Mounties jumped out to a 13-0 lead after one quarter and just kept the pressure on the undermanned 1A Bucks.

A 21-6 second quarter South Williamsport advantage didn’t make matters much better for Bucktail. Brett Mason provided some life for the Bucks by nailing a pair of three-point baskets.

South entered the game below .500 (now 3-5) and needed a confidence booster if they wanted to work themselves back into playoff contention. They did just that by taking advantage of missed Bucktail shots and turnovers.

With the mercy rule clock running continuously, the Bucks were outscored 33-9 in the second half to set the final.
The 15 point total by Bucktail was a season low and possibly the lowest point total by a Bucktail boys varsity team in the past decade, but fear not these Bucks are far from done.

Mason led Bucktail with 8 points. Brody Pentz added 3 points. Ethan Charcalla and Kyler Friese rounded out the Bucktail scoring with two points apiece.

Upcoming contests with Millville, Benton, Columbia Montour Vo-Tech and others may be just what this team needs.

They can very much get back on track Wednesday when they travel to Millville. The Quakers are struggling at 1-9 on the season. Interim head coach Mike Charcalla is looking for this game to be a confidence booster.

The Bucks (1-3) then will hit the road on Saturday with a trip to Laporte and play a very solid Sullivan County team.
