Lock Haven mother arrested in November missing child case
LOCK HAVEN, PA – City police on Friday said that the mother of a child reported missing in November has been arrested, charged with multiple offenses related to the incident.
Kristie Hamilton, 43, Lock Haven, has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child, false alarms to agencies or public safety, and false reports to law enforcement authorities.
According to the police department release, on Nov. 17 Hamilton’s son was reported missing which caused a large emergency response for a search and great concern within the community. Within a few hours of her son being reported missing, police allege, Hamilton found her son then transported him to a family member’s home in Lycoming County.
Hamilton continued to tell police that her son was missing and, police said, even stated that she feared he had drowned in the river. The following evening, Hamilton reported that she found her son in Bald Eagle Township, which police said was not true. Investigators said by continuing to lie to emergency responders, Hamilton cost first responder agencies over $6,000 in services and caused interference in responses to other emergencies.
An arrest warrant was served on Hamilton on Wednesday, police said, and she was arraigned in front of District Judge Keith Kibler. Hamilton was given $15,000 unsecured bail.
