Obituary

Robert Duane Getz Sr. 67, of 407 7th Street, South Renovo passed away at the Bucktail Medical Center on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. He was born on October 31, 1955, the son of John R., Sr. and Margaret A. (Heck) Getz. On May 24, 1975, he married the former Lizabeth (Beth) Burrows, and they have shared over 47 years of marriage together.  

Bob graduated from Bucktail Area High School, Class of 1974. Shortly after graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. While in the military, Bob trained to become a Security Police Law Enforcement Specialist. He was honorably discharged in 1978.  

Returning to Renovo, he was employed by Berwick Forge and Fabricating Company until it closed. He then continued his education by securing his Act 120 Police Certification from the Allentown Police Academy in May 1980. Bob secured employment with the Pennsylvania State University Capital Campus, Middletown, PA. Later he was employed by Lock Haven University from 1989 until his retirement in 2015. Upon his retirement, Lock Haven University dedicated a bench by the fieldhouse in honor of his service to the Lock Haven Community. Bob held many part-time law enforcement jobs throughout the course of his career. His resume included positions held in the South Renovo Borough, Renovo Borough Police Department, Chapman Township, Highspire Borough Police, Lower Swatara and Steelton Townships, and Chief of Police of Lamar Township. Most recently, he was employed by Keystone Central School District as a school police resource officer, where he retired in 2022.  

Bob was a member of the Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, a life member of the Citizen’s Hose Company, Staff Member of Camp Cadet, Past Board President of the Bucktail Medical Center, Social Member of the Sons of Italy, and a member of the Renovo Masonic Lodge #495.  

Bob’s greatest pleasures in life were his family. friends, and grandkids. He was so proud of being Pappy Bob to his two grandchildren, Bransen and Adilyn Getz. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking for various fundraisers, and playing Santa for so many in the community, carrying on a family tradition started by his father, John Getz, Sr. 

In addition to his grandchildren, he is survived by his son, Robert “Rob” Getz, Jr. and his wife, Deanna of Lewis Run, two brothers: John R. Getz, Jr. and his wife Vickie of Blanchard, Dennis E. Getz and wife Amy of Kingsley, one sister, Lynn D. Anderson and her husband Charles Anderson of South Renovo, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents.
