Schlesinger Communications purchases Lock Haven Elks building
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven Elks building on E. Main Street has a new owner. A closing was held last week between the seller, BPOE #182 of Lock Haven, and the buyer, Schlesinger Communications, Inc. of Lock Haven.
Jeffry O. Schlesinger, president and CEO of the Lock Haven-headquartered communications company indicated a key to the purchase was the building’s large second floor event venue. As owners/operators of radio stations WSQV and WBPZ in Lock Haven, Schlesinger said, the large second floor room will be able to house in-house music and entertainment events.
He said it will also be made available for a variety of public uses, from wedding receptions to job fairs to travel and bridal expos. Company vice-president “Mark the Shark” Schlesinger said the property will serve the business community and be a draw to Lock Haven, a point shared by Jeffry Schlesinger. He talked of the location’s proximity to neighboring communities of State College and Williamsport and said planned building utilization should be a draw for visitors to come to Lock Haven. With the purchase of multiple radio stations in State College, Bellefonte and Renovo two years ago, the company CEO said, 13 counties are now reached by the Schlesinger group.
Jeffry Schlesinger said the Elks will continue as a tenant on the building’s first floor, utilizing its bar room. He said there are plans for an additional business in the building which dates to 1854. He said the Elks has some short-term events booked for the facility and they will be carried out by the Elks.
The Elks building was put up for sale in October of 2021, its principals noting at the time that the pandemic had taken a toll on its finances. Last week’s sale terms were not disclosed but the asking price when the property was put on the market a year ago was $324,750.
