David L. Nyman – Obituary
David L. Nyman, 68, of 125 Turkey Lane, Mill Hall, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at his home.
Born on September 28, 1946 in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late Donald G. and Flora Pursel Nyman.
On August 14, 1971 at the Flemington Church of Christ, David married the love of his life, the former Cindy D. Young, who survives.
He was a Vietnam Veteran of the United States Army where he served with the U.S. Airborne as a Military Police Officer until being discharged in December 1973.
After being discharged from the Military, David served in 1974 as Chief of Police in Mill Hall. He then served for numerous years as the Chief of Police in Beech Creek Borough starting in the mid 1970’s. David also was the Mayor of Flemington for a period of six months.
He continued his career at Hammermill Paper Company while also running his own landscaping business, Nyman’s Landscaping.
For the past 33 years David was disabled due to his Service in Vietnam.
David was a member of the Flemington First Church of Christ, Military Purple Heart Association, 40 & 8 Club, Veterans of the Vietnam War, Inc., and the Howard VFW.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his friends at The Train Station. Most of all David cherished the time he spent at his grandsons’ baseball games and visiting his grandchildren in North Carolina.
In addition to his wife, Cindy, he is survived by a daughter, Lisa Woods; a son, Jamie (Dena) Nyman; four grandchildren: Drew and Devin Nyman and Brittany and Adam Woods; four sisters: Loretta (Frank) Eiseman, Donna (George) Young, Elizabeth Wadsworth, and Luella (Glenn, Sr.) Hoffman; and three brothers: Henry (Susan) Nyman, Don (Andrea) Nyman, and Richard (Anne) Nyman.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Lavina Nyman.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 1 p.m. at the Flemington First Church of Christ, 714 Canal St., Mill Hall, with the Rev. Mark Riley officiating. Burial will take place at Cedar Hill Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
