New Clinton Country Club owners reach out to community

MILL HALL, PA- A staple in Clinton County since 1908, Clinton Country Club (CCC) is now under new local ownership promising modern and advanced ideas and offering new promotions for the century-old landmark. Known for its rolling picturesque 18-hole golf course, Clinton County Club is situated between Fishing and Bald Eagle Creek in Bald Eagle Township.

Clinton County Club has prided itself as being the “best kept secret” in Central Pennsylvania golf. William Edwards, spokesperson for the new owners, said they want to tell the public, the secret is out, and the course is ready for public play. The new owners purchased the course from longtime club owner/businessman, Dan Klingerman. Friends for years, both Klingerman and Edwards want to preserve the long-time community golf course. Selling to local hometown owners, Klingerman is eager to see what is in store for Clinton Country Club.

Starting out as only a 9-hole course, the club has a long history. On September 9, 1908 the Sanderson property along Fishing Creek was purchased and Clinton Country Club was born. In 1920, a new 9-hole course was laid out by the well-known Architect, Alexander H. Finlay, the “Father of American Golf.” The course has adapted and improved several times over the years which created the current 18-hole course it is today.

Edwards said, “We are excited to take an already great course to the next level. We look forward to making improvements over the next few years.” Some of the first improvements include updating the fleet of maintenance equipment to help maintain the course. “We are proud to be able to preserve the history of the course and keep the ownership local and keep it alive for the community to enjoy,” Edwards continued.

Clinton Country Club is a public course open seven days a week. Edwards said, “We really want to stress this is a public course where anyone can golf, and the Pro Shop is here to help in anyway it can.” Even though CCC is a public course, they offer a full line of memberships with lots of added benefits and perks. In addition, the club is offering several winter specials for 2023 memberships.

The course is located just past Millbrook Playhouse and features a layout offering a challenge to golfers of all skill sets. CCC holds many member/nonmember and charity tournaments each year. In addition, the course is home to the Lock Haven University and Central Mountain High School golf programs.

Edwards commented that longtime tenant Haywood’s on the Green isn’t going anywhere and will continue to offer golfers and the public a great place to entertain. Current and new club members can look forward to a new membership benefit starting early next year. As of Jan. 1, 2023, a 10% discount will be offered on food purchases. More details will be released soon, and some menu items may be excluded.

CCC also offers a fully stocked pro shop with a knowledgeable staff to ensure you receive the proper golf equipment. It offers everything from golf bags, shoes, gloves, balls, clothing and accessories to meet every golfer’s needs. You will find all the top brands such as Bridgestone, Callaway, Nike, TaylorMade, Titleist and a lot more. The pro shop can assist with booking a tee time, renting golf carts, obtaining club storage, and registering you and your guest before each round of golf. The club also has a full-time golf pro on staff to provide lessons for any level of golfer.

The leaves may be changing but the course is still open so if you are looking for the finest golf course in Central PA, stop by Clinton Country Club for a round of golf.
