Commissioners say goodbye to two key employees; okay pay hikes for election workers

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Clinton County Commissioners, at their Thursday voting session, thanked and offered best wishes to two county employees stepping down this month. Receiving retirement certificates were the county’s Human Resources director Cathy Dremel and county Planner Katie de Silva.

Commissioner Jeff Snyder lauded Dremel for her five years with the county. He noted she became the county’s first-ever human resources director and read off a list of her many contributions in a variety of capacities while occupying that position. Her areas of assistance ranged from involvement in contract talks with county union members to what Snyder called her “invaluable” aid in the county’s response to the pandemic.

Board chairman Miles Kessinger noted that planner de Silva on Tuesday was honored by the Pennsylvania chapter of the American Planning Association. He read from a listing of her many contributions recognized at that event in Lancaster. They ranged from work with the Bald Eagle Valley Trail project to a complete update of the county zoning ordinances to a Chesapeake Bay study.

Also Thursday the commissioners approved pay hikes for election day workers in the county. Precinct judges of elections will see an increase from $150 to $200. Both majority and minority inspectors will see an increase from $145 to $195 per election. Additionally, attendees at poll worker training sessions will get $20 for their attendance and election workers returning results will get $15.

As explained by county voter registrar Maria Boileau at the county commissioners’ Monday work session, the pay hike will cost the county $9,000 for each election, but with $112,000 in the Election Integrity money flowing to the county, that amount will be covered.
