LHU: Football drops 2022 Homecoming Game against Clarion
LOCK HAVEN, PA – In the 2022 Homecoming Game, the Lock Haven University football team (1-2) fell to visiting Clarion University (1-2), 44-7, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East-West crossover matchup.
In addition to the Homecoming festivities, the Bald Eagles also honored the Hall of Fame Classes of 2020, 2021 and 2022, which will be inducted tonight (Sept. 17) at 7 p.m.
After the Bald Eagles fumbled on the opening drive of the game, Clarion took full advantage of the short field for a touchdown on a one-yard rush by quarterback Zach Benedek.
Clarion capitalized once again and took a 13-0 lead when Benedek found Andy Martin for a 53-yard touchdown pass with 5:22 remaining in the opening quarter.
Lock Haven responded in a blink on the ensuing possession and notched their lone touchdown of the game when Easton Turner (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge (Assumption)) linked up with his favorite target Marquon Williams (Kenosha, Wis./Bradford (Minnesota State University-Mankato)) for a 30-yard pass down the middle of the Clarion defense to cut the score to 13-7.
Clarion found the endzone once more in the second quarter and blanked LHU 10-0 in the quarter to take a 23-3 lead into halftime.
The Golden Eagles notched a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter and once more in the final quarter to bring home the 44-7.
On the ground, DeAndre Wakefield (Norristown, Pa./Souderton) turned in another fine performance as the sophomore running back eclipsed 100 yards and totaled 107 yards on 10 attempts.
For LHU, Turner finished the day 14-27 with 188 yards and the lone touchdown. Williams ended the contest with three catches for 82 yards, including the 30-yard touchdown and a 47-yard connection in the third quarter. Williams also carried the ball once for 20 yards.
Chase Holmes (Easton, Pa./Easton) notched a team-best four catches and totaled 48 yards.
Defensively, Kyler Cunningham (Julian, Pa./Bald Eagle Area) was all over the field for LHU and registered 14 total tackles. The sophomore linebacker also added .5 tackles for loss and half a sack.
Kasir Henry (Philadelphia/School of the Future (Anna Maria)) and Rodney Acquah (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) each went over double digits in tackles, notching 11 and 10 respectively. Acquah also notched a half sack of his own.
Austin Barber (Johnstown, Pa./Greater Johnstown) made plays on multiple units as the senior made nine tackles, along with blocking two Clarion field goals.

The Bald Eagles open the PSAC slate next weekend and hit the road on Saturday (Sept. 24) for a battle with East Stroudsburg. That contest with the Warriors is set for a 1:05 p.m.
