Bucktail tennis ends week strong, eyeing District IV top spot

By Bees O’Brien

FARWELL, PA- It was a big week for Lady Bucks tennis and it closed out even bigger for Bucktail.

Thursday began with Bucktail squaring off against a tough South Williamsport squad. The Lady Bucks downed the Lady Mounties last season to end South’s playoff run in the first round, so they expected a tough Mid Penn Conference battle and they would get that.

Big singles wins from Kayla Probert and Bella English combined with a doubles victory from Eva Sockman and Gigi Balchun would be enough for the Lady Bucks to remain undefeated on the season and a perfect 3-0 in conference play in the 3-2 Bucktail victory.

Bucktail jumped their overall record to 6-0 on Friday afternoon with a 4-1 win over visiting Cowanesque Valley.

No results were reported.

Bucktail now sits in second place in District IV’s 2A standings and trails only Jersey Shore (9-0) and has a narrow lead on Hughesville (6-1). Quality wins over both CV and South helped the Lady Bucks ascend the current playoff rankings.

Bucktail is scheduled to face Galeton home on Monday, host Wellsboro on Wednesday and travel to NP-Liberty on Thursday in a make-up match from last week.
