CM girls soccer claims first win, 1-0 over Huntingdon
HUNTINGDON, PA – The Central Mountain Lady Wildcat Soccer team was on the road again Tuesday evening, this time visiting the Lady Bearcats of Huntingdon. The game was played in the attacking end often and there were some great shots on the home side keeper. The first half ended without any goals, but you could feel something was coming.
The second half again saw the Lady Wildcats putting pressure on the backline of Huntingdon, but the goalkeeper caught almost everything. Junior Taylor Campbell found herself in dangerous positions throughout the night and was able to capitalize for her first goal of the season. Taylor found herself heading towards goal with a defender tightly on her and a keeper coming out, her composure allowed her to find the back of the net. The Lady Wildcats withstood the pressure for the final ten minutes of the game and had a few more near misses. The lone goal was enough to capture the first win of the 2022 season and a great reaction to Monday’s season-opening road loss at Penns Valley.
Coach Ryan Veltri said the Lady Wildcats worked hard and put forth a lot of effort playing two games in two days while also on the road. Kiahna Jones recorded her first clean sheet of her varsity career with the support of a backline who closed down any pressure from the home side.
The JV also came away with a victory recording four goals and only allowing one. Rhys Grubb scored her first goal of the season with a great ball delivered from Archie Walker. Kendall Veltri was on the scoresheet again, this time she recorded her first hat trick.
Coach Veltri said the Lady Wildcats are working hard, pushing through a tough schedule and learning along the way. “The season is very young, and we are trying to develop good habits, increase technical and tactical ability and game awareness. A relatively young group, they are making progress daily and have supported each other in their development.”
