Shapiro brings campaign for governor to Clinton County
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Democratic gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro made a Saturday afternoon campaign stop in Lock Haven, addressing an estimated 100 people in the parking lot outside Clinton County Democratic headquarters on E. Main Street in Lock Haven.
Shapiro, finishing his second term as state Attorney General, spoke for some 20 minutes and talked of “big projects” he has addressed as the state’s lead prosecutor. These included taking on “big pharmaceuticals” and “defending your right to vote.”
Shapiro said his “next big project” is defeating his November opponent, GOP nominee Doug Mastriano, a state senator from Franklin County. Shapiro said Mastriano is “unfit to serve,” charging he is actively recruiting white supremist to his side. He noted that Mastriano was in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021 and “kept on marching” to the Capitol as events unfolded that day. The Democratic nominee noted Mastriano’s involvement with GAB, an online site which he termed “a haven for white supremist,” stating the GOP nominee is “the only candidate in the country doing this.”
Shapiro charged that Mastriano’s number one priority is “to try to ban abortions with no exceptions.” He accused his opponent of cloaking himself in “the blanket of freedom” but it is not freedom when Mastriano tells women “what they can do with their body.”
The Shapiro visit was the first appearance in Clinton County by a statewide candidate since the spring primary. An aide said he had traveled by car from an earlier appearance in southeastern Pennsylvania and was to continue to stops in State College and Clearfield.
