Keystone Juniors Edge Montgomery for District 12 Title
MONTOURSVILLE, PA – The Keystone Junior All-Stars completed a three-game run through District 12 competition on Monday evening, downing Montgomery by an 8-3 count to claim the title and begin preparations for the sectional tournament.
Keystone opened up a 4-0 lead midway through the fourth inning, but Montgomery crept to within 4-3 after six. But Manager Steve Shade’s squad scored four runs in the top of the seventh and Blake Walker shut down Montgomery in the bottom of the inning to set the final at 8-3. (Keystone had downed the same Montgomery team by a 13-2 score last week).
Watt Probst started on the mound for Keystone and pitched into the fifth inning, giving up four hits and two runs, striking out eight and walking four. Walker came in with one out in the fifth and finished up, totaling 2.2 innings, surrendering one hit, one unearned run, striking out two and walking three.
Keystone totaled eight hits, led by Dane Hanna with a triple and single and three RBIs. Hunter Donley had two hits, including a double. Aiden Jones had a double and singles came from Cole Cooper and Darius Shade who also had an RBI.
Manager Shade complimented Probst for his mound work, stating he pitched “one heck of a game.” He also had words of praise for catcher Austin Frank, stating “he had the game of his life” behind the plate. Winning pitcher Probst credited his defense for their effort.
The Keystone Juniors will begin the sectional tournament on Monday, July 18 hosted by Wellsboro. Keystone will take on District 13 in the opening game of the tournament.
