Eugenia Florence Johnson

Obituary

Eugenia Florence Johnson, 88, of Rowlett, Texas was born on June 20, 1934 and passed peacefully on June 20, 2022.  Raised in Renovo, her parents, Florence (Eckel) and Charles H. Johnson preceded her to the Hereafter.

Many in Renovo knew her as Jean, Jeannie or Peachie.  To her loving family, she was known as Mom, Momma, Grammy, Grammy Kitty, GiGi and Sissy.  Jean is survived by her beloved daughters, Justine (“Tink”, deceased) Cummings, Cynthia (David) Stewart, Gale (Jerry, deceased) Roberge; her brother Charles “Charlie” (Dawn) Johnson II; grandchildren Gary (Lisa) Cummings, Jeffery (Amanda) Cummings, Jessica Cummings, Heather (Marco) Gargano, April (Ress) Walker, Dave (Nika) Stewart, Paxton (Miranda) Eakin, Collin Roberge, Tyler Eakin; 15 great grandchildren; 3 nieces, 2 nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

Jean was a 1952 graduate of Renovo High School.  Before moving from Renovo, she was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and sometimes played the pipe organ for Sunday services and the piano for choir practices.  She made a career as a cook and restaurant manager prior to becoming a nursing aide and in-home caregiver.  After retiring, she lived in Emporium, PA for several years and then moved to Texas with her youngest daughter Gale, often visiting her middle daughter Cynthia and extended family in both Virginia Beach and Florida.  Jean was thrilled to visit Renovo a few years ago and spend time there with her oldest daughter, Justine.

She was a beautiful pianist and a piano was always in her home!  She loved to cook, watch birds and tend to her garden of vegetables, hostas and roses.  She always had a colorful story of her childhood and upbringing in Renovo!  While she loved being anywhere with her family, her heart belonged to the mountains of Pennsylvania with the echo of a distant train whistle.

A Celebration of Life will be held in late August in Renovo.    Our family welcomes you to join us at that time to share your stories, old photos and fond memories! Details will be forthcoming.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in her name to The Greater Renovo Area Heritage Park Association, 530 Erie Avenue, Renovo, PA 17764 or to Friends of Rowlett Animals, 3905 Melcer Drive, Building 5, #504, Rowlett, TX  75088 or to the charity of your choice.
