Wildcat baseball claims another narrow win at Montoursville, 2-1
MONTOURSVILLE, PA – Central Mountain baseball fans had to be wondering how this year’s Wildcat team would perform, given the toll graduation took from last year’s PIAA state semifinalist. Almost a month into the new season, fans should be able to relax a bit.
The young Wildcats are a third of the way into the 2022 season and after their 2-1 win at Montoursville on Friday they carry a 6-1 record, including 6-0 in the Heartland Conference Division I. And it was underclassmen who carried the day against the Warriors.
Sophomore Connor Foltz drove in both runs, including what proved to be the game-winner, a double in the top of the seventh, breaking a 1-1 tie. Fellow sophomore and football/basketball teammate Brady Myers came on in relief in the bottom of the seventh and pitched a hitless, scoreless inning with two strikeouts and a walk to earn the save and preserve the win.
Junior Chase Brush earned the win, going the first six, giving up four hits, striking out nine, walking one and surrendering one run.
Central Mountain picked up eight hits, Foltz with two and Cru Stover with two singles. Other singles came from Kevin Grenninger, Cayde McCloskey, Aaron Miller and Gardy Fravel.
The Wildcats will be busy next week: Monday home with Shamokin (1-8), Wednesday home with Mifflinburg (2-4), finishing at Jersey Shore (1-5) on Thursday and traveling to Mifflin County (1-6) on Friday.
