McCann named new Central Mountain volleyball coach
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Chip McCann will be the new head volleyball coach at Central Mountain High School this fall. McCann was approved for the position by the Keystone Central School Board at the board’s Thursday night voting meeting.
McCann has experience as a game manager with Central Mountain and has also worked with the Lady Wildcat volleyball program in the past. He replaces Jamie Rauch who stepped down after one year, her team compiling a 12-6 record in 2021, finishing as District 6 Class 4A runner-up.
Rauch had replaced previous coach Scott Garman who resigned after the 2020 season. That squad went 13-5 and was the number two seed in the district, but COVID-19 curtailed that postseason opportunity.
The school district on Friday issued this release on the new coach hire:
Keystone Central School District and the Central Mountain High School are pleased to announce Mr. Chipp McCann as our new Head Girls Volleyball Coach. Mr. McCann showed us through a thorough head coach interview process that he was the best candidate for the position. He was interviewed by booster club representatives, student-athletes, administration, and school board members. Mr. McCann has been already working with Central Mountain Athletics for the past year as a game manager and has done a wonderful job.
His creative thinking, calm demeanor, and leadership abilities will be his strengths as our new head coach. The volleyball players were offered a survey to see what traits their next coach should possess. Mr. McCann fits this mold perfectly. He is very big on wanting to develop the program from the ground up, as he spoke to developing youth demo days for elementary-aged students. He also plans to bring back the annual “Queen of the Court” kick-off volleyball tournament at Central Mountain. His program handbook highlights some of the structures this program needs to be successful in the short term and long term future at Central Mountain. We are all excited to see this program flourish under Mr. McCann’s supervision.
Mr. McCann’s Comments: I’m excited! I am looking forward to this opportunity. Central Mountain volleyball has been on the rise of late and I can’t wait to get started. We have a nice group of girls coming back with some varsity experience and we also have a good group coming into the program. We have some talent but, talent alone doesn’t accomplish goals. Hopefully, we can make this the best year yet?!
