CM baseball moves to 3-0, downs Dragons 7-2
LEWISBURG, PA – Central Mountain has struggled to get games in this season, but when they play, they’re doing fine. Playing for the first time in a week on Monday, the Wildcats pushed across runs in each of the first six innings and came home with a 7-2 win over Lewisburg.
Cru Stover, with relief help from fellow junior Levi Schlesinger, picked up the win, going 5.2 innings, giving up four hits and two runs, walking four and striking out seven. Schlesinger pitched the final 1.1 innings, not surrendering a hit, walk or run.
Meanwhile the Wildcat batters combined seven walks with timely hitting, seven hits in all, to push across single runs in each of the first five innings, then two more in the sixth to maintain control of the game. Gabe Johnson continued his hot start to the season, going 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a walk; he drove in the game’s first run with a single and CM was never headed.
Winning pitcher Stover chipped in two singles and a walk. Also contributing singles were Cayde McCloskey, Aaron Miller and Kevin Grenninger; Miller had two runs batted in, McCloskey and Grenninger one each. Elek Fravel worked two walks.
Jack Blough took the loss for Lewisburg. Blough went four innings, allowing five runs on five hits and striking out two.
Coach Mike Kramer’s team (3-0) will be busy this week with a three-game homestand: Wednesday with Danville (0-2), Thursday with Selinsgrove (4-0) and Friday with Midd-West (2-2).
