LHU student announces candidacy for state House seat
LOCK HAVEN, PA β Elijah Probst, 22, a Lock Haven resident and a student majoring in chemistry at Lock Haven University, has announced he will seek the Democratic nomination for the state House 76th district in the May primary.
Probst provided The Record the information he included in an online candidacy announcement:
I’m Elijah Probst and I’m running for PA State Representative for the 76th District. I was born and raised right here in central Pennsylvania, living in Clinton County my whole life. Many of you may know me from my service to the community through Boy Scouts, or many of you were likely classmates with me in school. I understand the people here and what we need. It is very important that we have a State Representative who is truly one of the people here, and will serve as only a true central Pennsylvanian can. I love the area we live in and I want to make it the best place it can be. Unlike Stephanie Borowicz, I will directly support the people of the 76th district. A PA State Representative makes $90,335. If elected, I pledge to give half of this directly back to businesses and charities in the 76th District here in Clinton and Centre Counties. This alone will have a large impact on our area, and something I would be proud to do as my first big act. I fully believe in the Constitution and the individual liberties it affords to us, they are a keystone of my platform. Things such as our right to bear arms and our freedom of speech are very important to me. I am running as a Democrat in the upcoming primary on May 17th, as I feel I can help reshape the Democratic Party to be more about the working man again. As your representative, I would insure that the values we hold dear here in Clinton and Centre County are present in Harrisburg. If you would like to see more about me and my platform, check out my Facebook page @ElijahProbstStateRep.”
In response to a Record question, Probst said the minimum age requirement for a state representative is 21 years old and a state resident for four years, noting he is a life-long Clinton County resident
