State COVID cases surge on Friday


HARRISBURG, PA – The Pennsylvania Department of Health on Friday reported 11,628 new COVID-19 cases. That amount is the fifth highest total since figures were first reported in March of 2020. The highest one-day amount during the pandemic in the state was 12,884 recorded Dec. 5, 2020.

Hospitalizations across the state totaled 4,502, up 98 from Thursday, while those on ventilators numbered 560.
Clinton County reported 38 new cases for a total of 6,327 cases. In Centre County 68 new cases were recorded for a total of 23,732. Lycoming County added 91 new cases for a total of 20,457.

The state Friday reported 134 new deaths. The death count in Clinton County remained at 96 for the second day in a row.
