Trucker reported killed in incident with state police at I-80 truck stop
GREENE TOWNSHIP, PA – An unconfirmed report says a trucker was shot and killed by state police at an east-bound rest stop off Interstate 80 just before daybreak on Tuesday.
Multiple state police were investigating the incident and said details would be released later on Tuesday, terming the site at mid-morning “an active crime scene”
Truckers who had spent the night at the rest stop were backed up behind the incident scene at the stop’s exit area.
One trucker told the record-online that the unidentified rig driver was attempting to elude police and drove through the rest area. Police had set up strips to blow the truck tires, he said, and the rig finally came to a stop after going over the strips and colliding with multiple state police cars set up to block his path. At that point, the trucker said, a shooting ensued and the driver was killed.
Official details were expected from state police later Tuesday.
