Nice day for Boulder Beast #6

Scouts from Woolrich Troop 66 Girls and Boys Troop helped again this year. They are Shepard Hill, Ryan Lombardi, Robert Lombardi, Caden Peterson, Mackenzie Frazier and Caleb Frazier.
CASTANEA TOWNSHIP – It was another picture perfect day for a trail race Saturday and the PA Trail Dogs did it again, attracting 461 participants in two divisions to the sixth annual Boulder Beast Trail Challenge – a 25-mile race up Bald Eagle Mountain between Castanea and McElhattan organized by the local running group.
Reagan McCoy, a 23-year-old from Lock Haven, finished the course with a time of three hours, 56 minutes. For McCoy the first place finish was his second in two years. A relatively recent Penn College graduate, he says the race conflicted with college cross country competitions in previous years. First female finisher and seventh overall was Lisa Fisher from Cogan Station with a time of five hours, five minutes. There were 271 entries in the 24 mile division.

Race Director Craig Fleming for the second time added a 15.5 mile (25K) option to the challenge. The shorter course followed parts of the 25-mile course, taking runners up the infamous boulder fields and to several of the scenic vistas, but shaved about nine miles off the overall distance.
First-place finisher for the 25K race was Jeremy Johnson of Mill Hall with a time of two hours, 39 minutes. Katie Martin of Henrietta, NY was the first female finisher on the shorter course and eleventh overall, with a time of 3:38. There were 190 participants in the 25K event.
The Boulder event was again staged with tremendous volunteer support from the community. On the scene once again were Scouts from Woolrich Troop 66 Girls and Boys Troop. They helped aid a food/drink station and one of Troop 66’s Scouts, Eli Hill participated and completed the 25-miler this year. Troop 66 has been helping at the Boulder Beast for multiple stagings and will also be helping at the Hyner Challenge in November.
