FARWELL – Keystone Central School Board President Jack Peters will be getting out his old (circa 1960-61) Lock Haven High School white gym shorts and t-shirt for a special event this Thursday evening at Bucktail High School: The official ribbon-cutting, grand opening ceremony of the recently completed Bucktail Fitness Center.

The special event will take place at 5:45 p.m. before the school board holds its October meeting at Bucktail. The board meeting starts at 6:30 but project developers have set the ribbon-cutting for 5:45 p.m. followed by a 10-minute mini Fitness Center workout conducted by the district’s health & phys-ed staff; they are encouraging workout attire for participants.

The community is invited to attend and walk-through the center from 5:45-6:15. Fully monitored public use of the facility by trained personnel is slated for late February. Similar facilities are planned next year for the Central Mountain High School and Middle School.

The fitness center was designed with federal funds from a $280,000 grant recently awarded to the school district after four years of work to submit the successful application by the Health and Physical Education faculty in KCSD with support from Lock Haven University’s Department of Health and Physical Education. Project coordinator Don Mansfield said the fitness center will facilitate even more collaborative opportunities between the Keystone Central School District and Lock Haven University faculty and its students.
