Details for KCSD opening announced

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Keystone Central School District Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin has circulated new details on plans for the start of the new school year at the end of August. Additionally she unveiled plans for a series of open houses in September.

The complete release below:

Dear Keystone Central School District Families,

I hope you are having a wonderful summer. We have been busy making preparations for the upcoming school year and I wanted to provide you with some important information so that you can finalize your learning options and schedules. August 31, 2021 will be the first day of school for all students. This fall, we will be holding an Open House in each of our schools in order to strengthen relationships with our families. Please save the date!

  • September 13, 2021 Open House at All Elementary Schools – 5pm-8pm
  • September 14, 2021 Open House at CMMS & BHS 5pm-8pm
  • September 15, 2021 Open House at CMHS & CTC 5pm-8pm

We have made some adjustments to school schedules for the upcoming school year in order to address the following needs: a 3-Tier Bus Model to allow for each bus to make multiple runs twice each day, assign students to busses with students of similar age, eliminate shuttle bus runs, reduce the time students are on busses, increase instructional minutes for CTC, and to provide additional time for elementary teachers to have a common Professional Learning Community (PLC) time in addition to their personal planning time.

KCSD Health and Safety Plan Update

On July 8, 2021 our school board approved an updated health and safety plan to address the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are few of the key ideas from the new plan:

  • Masks & Face Coverings are not required but may be worn by choice at school.
  • Masks & Face Coverings are currently required on school busses because of the January 1, 2021 Executive Order of President Biden. Please note that as a public school KCSD must follow all executive orders by state and federal officials. Parent transportation is an option for families who do not wish to use the school bus.
  • We will maintain physical distancing of 3 feet when possible in our schools.
  • Temperatures will no longer be taken daily for all, but rather as needed by the school nurse
  • Daily cleaning and sanitizing will continue
  • KCSD administrators will continue to conduct contact tracing when known cases of Covid-19 have occurred. Principals may require quarantine for known contacts.

The entire KCSD Health and Safety Plan can be accessed on our website at this link

Keystone Central School District is committed to providing effective instructional learning options for all students. Using survey input from parents, students and staff members along with academic growth and attendance data, we will be offering three choices for learning in the 2021-2022 school year. In addition to face-to-face learning in the traditional school setting our Virtual Academy allows families to select an online curriculum to learn at home or at school. Families who wish to enroll their children in the Virtual Academy should register at this link: KCSD Virtual Academy Registration by August 1, 2021 so that we have time to prepare student schedules.

If a face-to-face learner needs to isolate, or quarantine, due to the pandemic or another unique health related reason, students may be assigned to synchronous remote learning for short periods of time such as 14 days or less. All synchronous remote learning options must be approved by the principal.

More detailed information about the upcoming school year will be communicated in early August. If you have questions, please call or email your child’s principal. Have a great rest of the summer and we look forward to a new school year with you!

Respectfully,

Dr. Jacquelyn Martin
