New state budget with more money for Keystone Central

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Keystone Central School District will benefit to the tune of more than $1.4 million in additional state funding, based on Pennsylvania’s new fiscal year budget signed into law earlier this week by Gov. Tom Wolf.

The exact amount of the additional state funding for KCSD is $1,446,624.93, according to information on the agenda for the school board’s work session Thursday night. The pre-meeting agenda said that Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin and Business Manager Susan Blesh will be making a presentation on plans for the additional money.

The “new” money includes $482-thousand for basic education and $133-thousand for special education. Additional funds amounting to more than $830,000 will also be coming to the district; these dollars will go towards summer enrichment, $118,635; after-school programs, $118,635; and “learning loss,” $593,175. The district officials are to provide further details relative to a long-term strategy Thursday night.

The school board last month had given final approval to a nearly $83-million budget which kept taxes unchanged for a second year in a row.
