Green Acres Glampground to Open Soon in Hyner

By Christopher Miller
HYNER – Coming this summer – Green Acres Glampground across from the base of Hyner Mountain.
Tracy and Rob Ellis have been hard at work rehabilitating a property they are sure will be a hit with the hiking, running, hang gliding, festival-going, nature-loving, road-tripping, and exploring crowds.

“We are busy working on Green Acres Glampground, which will have RV/camper sites, semi-permanent stargazing tents, an AirBnB rental house, and future tent camping spots,” Tracy told The Record newspaper last week.

After meeting with Lock Haven City Council some months ago on the possible purchase or lease agreement with Peddie Park at the edge of Lock Haven along the Renovo Road, and meeting with DCNR, Tracy and Rob were delighted to find a property which “checks all the boxes” in Hyner.

“We will be leasing the property from Mr. Bobby Maguire and we have been rolling with the project ever since,” Tracy said. “He has been super great to us and we thought Green Acres would be a great start; we hope to have most of the stargazing tents up by Memorial Day weekend.”

Current plans at the site include renovations to the main building which currently has three apartments for an AirBnB style rental, renovations to the basement to include a recreation room for guests at the rental and to the glampground, and full bathrooms also for glampground guests.

“The house sits on the top of the property with fantastic views of Hyner to glimpse hang gliders,” Tracy said.
Currently, there are six and soon to be seven or eight RV/camper sites with full hook-ups – water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical, six of the stargazing tents are being erected which come fully furnished including linens, and possible tent camping sites in the future.

“The stargazing tents will be the big draw we think,” Tracy said. “They are bell-shaped and have areas on the top and sides that allow you to see the stars at night.”

A possible sportsmen’s tent may be in the works too, geared toward fishing and closer to the river.
Currently, the site is around 20 acres in size and will have porta-potty toilets and an outdoor shower until construction finishes on the basement of the AirBnB property recreation room, with expectations that the downstairs will be available by June.

“Memorial Day weekend would be the most ideal for us to have the sites up and ready for people to rent and stay with us,” Tracy said.

With 250 yards of river frontage the property is sure to be popular with fishermen and river activities.

“We have plans to rent out kayaks to make that available to campers, but that may not happen until next season,” Tracy said.

Currently, the tent and RV/camper sites are seasonal and require a minimum two-night stay.
“We will be a seasonal operation closed during the winter and pretty much open from May through the end of October.
