Lady Wildcats tune up for districts with 9-4 win over Milton

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain softball team finished its regular season with a nifty 15-3 mark as the Lady ‘Cats downed visiting Milton by a 9-4 score on Friday.

Central Mountain had already earned the top seed for the approaching District 6 playoffs and will play for the district crown at Saint Francis University of Loretto on Wednesday, May 26, game time 5 p.m. The opponent will be number two seed Bellefonte. The Lady Raiders defeated three seed Hollidaysburg (9-10) in a Thursday semifinal contest by a 9-2 score. Bellefonte (15-2) defeated Central Mountain during the regular season by a 6-0 score on May 12, so CM will be looking for revenge.

The Lady Wildcats spread around 10 hits in the victory over winless (0-14) Milton. Head Coach Fred Caldwell had the opportunity to get some reserves some game action. Allison Lininger had two singles, as did Lexi Strouse. Alyssa Fisher had a 2-run triple in the second inning when the Lady Wildcats put up three runs and Strouse had a 2-RBI single in the third when Central Mountain took the lead for good at 7-4.

Other hits came from Caitlyn Watson, Riley Houser, Madison Hardy and Madisyn Wian with singles and Harley Kunes with a double.

Three Central Mountain players shared the mound duties. Lininger started, Fisher followed and Adalynn McKeague came into the game in the fourth and finished with eight strikeouts.

Central Mountain has a home scrimmage set for Monday with Jersey Shore, then Wednesday of next week it will be on to Saint Francis in the team’s district title quest.
