Lady Bucks down Benton in three, 17-0
BENTON, PA – The Bucktail Lady Bucks made quick work of Benton on Thursday, piling up 15 hits on the way to a 17-0, 3-inning win. Pitchers Jordan Burrows and Lily Francis became the latest Bucktail pitchers to toss a no-hitter this season. .
The victory finished up another outstanding regular season for Bucktail, ending up 15-4. The Lady Bucks finished with the third seed in District Four Class A, behind Northeast Bradford (14-0) and Montgomery (18-1).
The District Four playoff schedule is due out soon. If Millville (9-9) finishes as the sixth seed, it is believed the Lady Bucks could host them Tuesday, May 25 in a quarterfinal game. Indications are a semifinal game against Montgomery would follow for the winner on Friday, May 28, either at Elm Park in Williamsport or Turbotville.
Prior to the Buck win at Benton, Coach Mike Poorman told The Record, “We have played our best softball the last two weeks and feel good about where we are heading into the playoffs. The girls are playing as a team. We are very excited to be in the playoffs again and to represent our school and community.”
Thursday winless Benton was no match for Bucktail. The visitors scored nine in the first, two in the second and three in the third for their 17 runs. Meanwhile Lady Buck pitchers Jordan Burrows and Lily Francis combined on the no-hitter, striking out two and walking four. The Bucktail defense was perfect behind them.
In an unusual twist, all 15 Bucktail hits were singles. In with three each were Makenzie Wagner, Emma Poorman and RaiLeigh Isaacs; and Poorman and Wagner had three RBIs each, Isaacs two. Jordan helped her own cause with two singles and three RBIs. Haley Burrows, Francis, Alexis Lowery and Alexis Ahearn all had a single each, Lowery with an RBI. Kayla Probert chipped in with two runs batted in.
