Lady Wildcats take two from Shamokin
COAL TOWNSHIP, PA – The Central Mountain softball team piled up plenty of offense Saturday in sweeping a double-header at Shamokin High School.
The Lady Wildcats took the first one, 17-2; that was completion of a game stopped by rain on May 3 in the bottom of the third inning. It finished after four on Saturday. Game two went to Central Mountain by a 13-5 score.
The two wins put the Lady ‘Cats at 13-3 overall with a trip to Mifflin County (8-6) scheduled for Monday. Shamokin dropped to 11-5 with the losses.
Allison Lininger went the distance in the circle in the lid-lifter, four innings of 1-hit ball. Lininger and Adalynn McKeague split the pitching duties in game two, combining on a 6-hitter, two of the Indians’ five runs unearned.
CM’s bats were on fire Saturday: 14 hits in the first game, 19 in the second. Lininger led the way with a 7-for-9 performance for the two games with six runs batted in. Madisyn Wian was a collective 5-for-7 with four RBIs. Caitlyn Watson went 3-for-4 in game two. Riley Houser had two hits in each game and drove in three runs. Alyssa Fisher had three hits in game two. Alexis Strouse had two hits in the second game. Harley Kunes was 4-for-6 in the two games with four RBIs. Madison Hardy had a huge game one: 3-for-3 with four runs scored and seven RBIs. Maggie Saar had a hit in each game and drove in two runs. Both Julia Schubach and Gracie Saar each had a hit in game two.
Central Mountain should learn by Tuesday of this week if there might be a semi-final District 6 Class 5A semifinal playoff game on this Thursday, as May 20 had been listed as the date for such a contest. The championship game is set for May 26. Bellefonte (14-1) is ranked number one, Central Mountain (13-3) number two and Hollidaysburg (9-9) number three in the most recent rankings.
