County unemployment claims looking better
HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County’s unemployment claims numbers continued to show improvement for the week ending May 1, 2021, according to information released Friday by the state Department of Labor & Industry.
Initial weekly claims were 68, down from the 81 registered for the week ending April 24. The new claims included 56% who were male, and 24% were in the construction field. The continued unemployment insurance claims were down almost 100 to 550. That number included 57% men, and 23% in the construction sector.
The state also reported that seven Clinton County residents had unemployment benefits end during the seven day period ending May 1. Since the beginning of 2021, a total of 469 county residents have had benefits expire.
The April monthly unemployment rates for all 67 counties should be released by the state on or around June 1. Clinton County’s March unemployment rate was 7.2%.
