Millville defeats Lady Bucks, 5-4
MILLVILLE, PA – The Bucktail and Millville softball teams staged a back-and-forth contest on Wednesday, the home-standing Lady Quakers breaking a 4-4 tie with a single run in the bottom of the seventh for a 5-4 win.
The game was as even as can be: scoreless through the first two, each team with a run in the third then a 3-1 Millville lead after four, only to see the Lady Bucks plate two to tie things at 3-3. The Lady Quakers added a run in the sixth for a 4-3 lead but the Lady Bucks tied it up at 4-4 in the top of the seventh, only to see the home team pull out the walk-off win moments later.
Bucktail picked up six hits, lead by Makenzie Wagner with two, including a double and an RBI. Singles were contributed by Jordan Burrows, Emma Poorman, Julie Green (with an RBI) and Lily Francis.
Wagner pitched the first 5.1 innings, giving up four runs, two earned. Poorman entered in the sixth and worked 1.1 innings. They combined for a 5-hitter with 11 strikeouts and issued two walks.
Wagner stole two bases, Francis one. Bucktail left nine runners on base.
The loss was the second tough one in two days, following the 5-2 Tuesday loss to Montgomery. Now 7-3 on the year, Bucktail will continue a busy week on Friday, traveling to Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech (4-7). Millville is 7-3 with the win.
