Frederick Dean Poorman – Obituary
Frederick Dean Poorman of Norfolk, VA, 91, passed away March 8, 2021. Fred was born in Renovo, PA to the late John and Margaret Poorman. He was predeceased by all of his brothers and sisters: Sue, Maines, Delbert, Babe, Betty, Bob, and Sweetsy. He was also predeceased by the love of his life, Kathryn (Stout) Poorman, his wife of 64 years.
He was born and raised in Renovo and was always reminiscent in his life of family, friends and sports he participated in. As a teenager, he worked in the CCC cutting trees through the mountains and setting pins at the YMCA bowling alley. He played football, baseball and basketball at Renovo High School. On Renovo’s basketball team he was in the top 25 for career total points scored.
From high school, Fred joined the Navy and spent the rest of his life in Norfolk, VA. He was a retired Navy Veteran assigned to the USS Redfin. He attended Old Dominion University and was a graduate of Keys Business College. Fred worked for Civil Service, after the Navy, and retired from there as well.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Frederick, Jr. (Cynthia) and Steve (Debby); his grandchildren, Steve Jr, Matthew (Kristy), Scott (Jessi) and Heather; his great grandchildren, Cooper, Jack, Abigail, Heidi, Rose, Erin and Theodore, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Norfolk, VA on Sunday May 2, 2021 at 3:00pm.
