Bucks Cow Valley Bound
by Jim Morgan
FARWELL —After two straight weeks of a beat-down from the Northern Tier teams, Coach Bruce Ransom and his Bucktail football team will be glad to see a team like Cowanesque Valley this Friday night. It will be the battle of the winless as one of them will receive their first victory of the season.
Bucktail fans had a lot to cheer about in the beginning of both halves before undefeated Wellsboro got the ball as the Hornets won 71-6.
On the opening kick-off, Wellsboro was returning the ball as senior Brandon Payne stripped the ball out of the hands of the runner. Bucktail stalled on the opening possession as they turned it over on downs. Standout Wellsboro quarterback Mike Pietropola wasted no time to find the end zone; first pass was to wide receiver Nick Marple for a fifty yard touchdown as the route was on in the first quarter.
In just seven plays, Wellsboro was leading 37-0 at the end of the first quarter. Pietropola threw for over 233 yards in the first half before his night was over.
With the second half starting, Bucktail received the kick-off. In the first series of plays, Aaron Ransdorf took a Blake Gavlock handoff and started to the left on the first offensive play of the second half. With nowhere to run on the left, Ransdorf weaved between Wellsboro defenders as he changed direction and headed to the right sideline. As the speedy senior exited the trenches, he broke loose into the secondary and ran 52 yards to a Bucktail score. The play exemplified the never-quit attitude the young Bucks continue to show.
Wellsboro had some big boys on both sides of the ball, as mentioned by coach Ransom. “We will go back to the drawing board and get ready for CV. The rest of the season will show how much we grew as a team. I believe that Aaron Ransdorf will have a break out game on running this game.”
CV has only scored twelve points during the three games as Wellsboro shut them out in week one. CV has faced Troy in week two and Muncy last week only losing 12-6. So this will be a very good match up.
Next week the Bucks will play home on Tuesday night against Nativity BVM. Kick-Off time will be at 6 p.m. Come on down and support the Bucks and it will be Senior Night.
