Marsteller dominates “Last Chance” tournament, qualifies for US Olympic Trials

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Former Lock Haven University wrestling standout Chance Marsteller (’19) has qualified for the United States Wrestling Team Olympic Trials, to be held April 2-3, 2021.

Competing over the past weekend at U.S. wrestling’s last chance qualifier in Fort Worth, Texas, Marsteller dominated the 74-kg field and finished a perfect 5-0. He didn’t surrender a single point in all five matches and outscored his opponents, 38-0. In the finals, he rolled by Vincenzo Joseph, a former NCAA national champion at nearby Penn State, 5-0.

Marsteller, a two-time All-American for LHU, will waste little time in heading back to the Lone Star State, as the United States Wresting Team Olympic Trials are set for Friday and Saturday, April 2-3 at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.

The 74-kg champion at the trials will become eligible to represent the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, August 1-7, 2021.

During his time at LHU, Marsteller was a big part of the program’s return to Division I national prominence.

He was a two-time All-American for the Bald Eagles, closing his career with at third-place NCAA finish in 2019. Following the 2018-19 season, Marsteller was named the Eastern Wrestling League (EWL) Athlete of the Year, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Division I Wrestler of the Year and LHU’s Bald Eagle Award winner, which is given to the top male senior student-athlete. He also was awarded two PSAC Winter top-10 awards, which serve as very prestigious academic honors.
