Dickey School on the auction block

LOCK HAVEN, PA – The now shutdown Dickey Elementary School on S. Fairview Street in Lock Haven will go on the auction block on Saturday, March 27.

The Keystone Central School Board had voted last year to close the school and put the building and its contents up for sale. It was last used for classes in March of 2020, but students never returned once the COVID-19 pandemic hit.

Harry Schenck of Lock Haven is the auctioneer. According to information provided in the auction flier, the school was built in 1966 (replacing its predecessor, Lincoln Elementary). Per the flier, the school building is in good condition but “not compliant with disabilities act and will require asbestos abatement.”

The building includes eight classrooms on the main level, along with a kitchen and gymnasium and library; the lower level includes eight classrooms, a walk-in freezer and three large storage rooms.

The Schenck sales sheet said the building will be sold as is, with 10 percent down at the time of the sale. Additionally, phone and absentee bids will be accepted.

An open house to view the real estate was held last Saturday and another is scheduled for this Thursday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. As for the March 27 auction, the Dickey contents will be auctioned at 9:05 a.m., the building at 12 noon. Contents will include book shelves, chairs, file cabinets, electronics, collectibles, school supplies and vehicles.
