Central Mountain’s Simcox, Walizer into Powerade quarterfinals; ‘Cats in fourth place
MONROEVILLE, PA – Central Mountain made its presence felt in its first appearance at the Powerade tournament in the Monroeville Convention Center in a grueling first-day session on Friday.
The Wildcat team got wins from 12 of its 13 entrants, two unseeded freshmen leading the showing with advancements to the quarterfinal round. At the end of the Friday session, both Luke Simcox and Griffin Walizer were among 10 ten Wildcats who will be back for day two on Saturday.
The Wildcats are in fourth place with 65.5 points. Malvern Prep leads with 93, then Waynesburg with 86.5 and Seneca Valley with 70 points.
Simcox won his first two bouts at 126 pounds: a 17-1 technical fall (4:12) over Joel McClintock of Northern York and 4-2 over Sam Cartella of Western Reserve (OH). Simcox will meet Dustin Norris of LaSalle of Ohio Saturday morning in the quarterfinals.
Walizer also took his first two: 7-3 over Ronnie Romanini of Walsh Jesuit (OH), and 5-2 over Lincoln Hower of Faith Christian. He is to wrestle top-seeded Cole Homet of Waynesburg on Saturday.
Those involved in the Saturday morning consolation round number four are Clayton Foster at 106 pounds, Gino Serafini at 126 pounds, Taylor Weaver at 138 pounds, Rocco Serafini at145 pounds, Damien Galentine at 160 pounds, Caleb Porter at 172 pounds, Nik Miller at 215 pounds and Gage Sutliff at 215 pounds.

11 a.m. semifinals & 5th consolation round
1 p.m. 6th consolation round
5 p.m. consolation and championship finals
