New Unemployment Claims Continue Inching Up in Clinton County

HARRISBURG, PA – Weekly information released Friday afternoon by the state Department of Labor and Industry continued to show an increase in unemployment claim categories for Clinton County residents.

For the week ending Dec. 5, there were 187 initial unemployment claims, up from 121 the week before. The new numbers showed 76% were male, and 30% were in the construction field. The continued claims were at 904 people, up from 766 registered in the week ending Nov. 28. The 904 number included 55% who are male and 18% in the construction field. Also, the state numbers showed that 43 residents had benefits expire during the week, up from the 35 who had exhausted benefits the last full week of November.

The monthly unemployment rate for November should be released in late December. The October rate for Clinton County was 6.9%.
