Study Grant Okayed on Plans to Convert Lock Haven Masonic Temple into Cultural Center
HARRISBURG, PA – Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Thursday that a Downtown Lock Haven, Inc. project has been approved for a $10,000 grant. The money will be used to study the feasibility of converting the Masonic Temple at Grove and Main Streets in Lock Haven into a countywide cultural center.
As announced by the governor’s office, Downtown Lock Haven will use the funding to conduct a feasibility and market study of the historic downtown building. DLH is collaborating with the Clinton County Arts Council to bring a county cultural center to the heart of Lock Haven. The state release said project backers plan to adapt the Masonic Temple Lodge 199 to be the home of a new cultural center, preserving a historic structure and opening its doors to the community.
The grant was one of six announced through the state’s Municipal Assistance Program to assist local governments with planning for zoning, coordinating emergency services, and creating comprehensive plans.
The Lock Haven Masonic Lodge #199 was built in 1923. The cultural center is a collaboration between the Clinton County Arts Council and Downtown Lock Haven, Inc., seeking input from businesses, organizations and individuals in the community.
